PM to inaugurate Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on 16 November

India’s longest expressway to also be used as emergency runway for Indian Air Force aircrafts

The Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 340 km Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on 16 November 2021. The Purvanchal Expressway, being developed on engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis, will start from village Chand Sarai in Lucknow and end in Haidariya village in Ghazipur district. The project cost of the expressway is around Rs.224.94 billion, including the cost of land. Purvanchal Expressway will also be used as an emergency runway for Indian Air Force aircrafts. It will allow fighter jets of the Indian Air Force to use it as an airstrip for emergency situations. The completion of the expressway is expected to save time, control pollution, save fuel and reduce the number of accidents. It is likely to enhance tourism in Uttar Pradesh and boost agriculture, industrial and commercial activities. The expressway is expected to attract investment in food processing, warehousing, handloom, dairy, among others.
