Uttarakhand CM inaugurates dry pine needle-based power generation plant
On 30 September 2020, Uttarakhand Chief Minister (CM) Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the state’s first dry pine needle-based electricity generation project at Chakon Dhanari village in Uttarkashi district. The CM stated that the 25 KW power generation project would be of great utility as dry pine needles, also called pirul, are a major cause of forest fires in the state. He further added that the project will create employment opportunities for the local population. The state produces 2.3 million metric tonnes of dry pine needles per annum, from which around 200 MW electricity can be generated, the CM informed.
