Tamil Nadu CM inaugurates new solid waste management system in Chennai

On 30 September 2020, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister (CM) K Palaniswami inaugurated a new solid waste management system for the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). Under the system, Urbaser SA and Sumeet Facilities Limited, a Spain-India joint venture will collect and dispose waste in Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Adyar, Perungudi and Sholinganllur zones for as many as eight years. It will be paid based on 34 key performance indicators under primary collection, secondary collection and transport, street sweeping and collection, compliance, complaint redressal etc., as mentioned in an official release.
