Ratnagiri refinery project may be shifted to Gujarat

Amid concerns over land acquisition

The Centre is planning to shift the USD 70 billion Ratnagiri Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited (RRPCL) from Maharashtra to Gujarat, amid concerns over land acquisition. The refinery was to be commissioned by 2022, but delays in land acquisition have pushed the deadline to 2025, as per the Deccan Herald. The project, which is to come up on 4,046.8 hectares, was initially to be set up at Nanar village, but had to be shifted to Raigad amid protests by farmers. RRPCL is a joint venture comprising Saudi Aramco, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), and the three state-owned oil marketing companies, namely the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL).
