Tamil Nadu govt cancels notification for PCPIR

Approximately 22,939 hectares was earmarked for development

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly adopting the Tamil Nadu Protected Agricultural Zone Development Bill, the state government has canceled its 2017 notification, declaring 45 villages of Nagapattinam and Cuddalore districts as local planning areas for the constitution of a Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR). Approximately 22,939 hectares of land was earmarked for development in the notification, according to The Times of India. The Bill prohibits the exploration, development and production of hydrocarbons in the Cauvery Delta region.
