Construction work commences for 2 Locomotive facilities in Bihar
Investment outlay of Rs.23 billion
Construction work has commenced on two Locomotive Facility projects
in Bihar. These include an Electric Locomotive Facility at Madhepura
district and a Diesel Locomotive Factory at Marhaura in Saran district.
Electric Locomotive Facility Project at Madhepura district - Rs.13 billion
Indian Railways (IR) in a joint venture with France-based Alstom has
proposed to set up an Electric Locomotive Facility over 100 acres of land
at Madhepura district. A total of 800 electric locomotives of 12,000
horse power (HP) each will be manufactured and supplied to IR over 11
years. The first 5 locomotives will be imported while the remaining 795
locomotives will be manufactured at Madhepura. Investment outlay in the
project is Rs.13 billion.
Diesel Locomotive Factory Project at Marhaura in Saran district - Rs.10 billion
The Rs.10 billion project was announced in December 2007. IR had
formed a joint venture with General Electric Transportation (GET)
in December 2015 to set up a diesel locomotive factory at Marhaura in
Saran district. The proposal was to design, manufacture, test and supply
1,000 diesel locomotives to IR over a period of 10 years. Of these,
700 locomotives will be of 4,500 HP and 300 of 6,000 HP. Around 227
acres of land was acquired in February 2016 for the project.
